Bouldering Trip Forest Of Dean
Last Updated on October 23, 2003
for those of you who do not know what bouldering is, its a form of climbing that has been practiced since time began. back in cave man times it was climbing boulders of rock whilst looking out for animals to hunt...it has now evolved along side climbing as a sperate sport that is now one of the most popular forms of climbing.
it involves climbing un roped up short hard climbs from only a few metres to 'high ball' problems that may be 40 feet high!!!
you can make the 'problems' as they are called as hard or as easy as you want to so as to suit your personal ability.
kit wise...many 'boulderers' can be seen walking through woods with strange crash mats strapped on their backs, these are placed under the climb to protect you if you fall off. all you need is a pair of rock shoes, a bag of climbers chalk and if you have one a boulder mat.
we headed off into the woods near to the house on a hunch that we would find some crags and boulders, we were rewarded with some great problems tucked away almost forgotten in the forest.
here are some photos of myself, one of our instructors phil and his girlfriend hannah on some of the easier problems...on the harder ones we were to busy getting ready to catch or support each other on the ascents so no photos of those yet...
we are looking at doing a few guided bouldering weekends in the forest where we will take you to the various crags and introduce you to the sport or take those already boulderers to some quiet problems away from the crowds, work on your technique and get you up some awsome routes...who knows you might increase your grade!!!
happy bouldering
