Kayaking and Canoeing

The river Wye has something for everyone. We offer ½ day try it sessions, day trips, overnight canoe bivis and even 4-day mini expeditions.

A qualified instructor will accompany you on the water and give you expert tuition to help keep that boat in a straight line! Paddles, Buoyancy aids and helmets are issued to all before your instructor gives you some bank side tuition, then it's onto the water!

We use several areas of the river from Ross-on-Wye to Redbook to offer you something for everyone. The most popular area being on the Kerne Bridge to Symonds Yat section.

Taster and group sessions last approximately 3 hours, with trips from 3 to 6 miles, depending on ability, and river levels. Please note we don't operate on the river if the fresh water levels are over 2 metres above the mean summer level. However a local lake and beauty spot can be used if the river is too high or for those wishing to try it on flat-water first and younger groups.

Ahh!..A lazy day on the river...How about a day out on the river Wye? One of the most scenic areas in the UK, gentle flowing water, the chance of spotting kingfishers and peregrine falcons. Or maybe a bounce down some rapids...its all in a days kayak or canoe.

Kayaks or Canoes? Choosing the right boat

KAYAKS invented by the Athabascan Indians of Alaska.
1 man (occasionally 2) closed cockpit boats, paddled with double-ended blades. Suitable for beginners, and anyone over the age of 10 to paddle on their own.
CANOES: invented by the Native American Indians.
Large open canoes that can be paddled solo by the more experienced paddler or usually paddled by 2 or 3 people. Suitable for all ages and abilities. Single ended blade used by each member of the boat. Ideal for a lazy summers day paddle.

We suggest that for overnight trips, and any session longer than 1 day that canoes are the better boat to use. You can store camping kit, your picnic or even the family dog for a relaxing paddle.

We don't hire out boats for unaccompanied trips, but we know a man who does...

Canoe and Kayak Courses

We offer a range of course to get you on the water, ready for river trips, get you onto the rapids, play boating or towards the instructor qualifications offered by the British Canoe Union (B.C.U.).

Canoeists take on the Symonds Yat Rapids Canoeists in the Rapids mid river race.
